Training Questions
Should I do private dog training or take a group class?That depends on your goals and the type of training your dog needs. Here’s a guide:
Classes are great for:
- Learning or improving at dog sports like agility or K9 Nose Work®.
- Learning and practicing basic obedience.
- Socialization, exercise, and mental stimulation.
- Behavior modification of any kind (fear, shyness).
- Basic obedience, advanced obedience (distance stays, recall).
- Faster results: We can do the training for you.
I have just brought my puppy home. Should I contact you now?
Absolutely. Puppies learn from the moment they’re born—the critical socialization window lasts from birth until 16 weeks. After that, shaping your puppy into a friendly, easy-going adult dog becomes much harder. The sooner you get in touch for a puppy consultation, the better.

Daycare & Boarding Questions
Which vaccinations does my dog need to board with you or enroll in daycare?Dogs: Must have current vaccination against rabies, distemper, and Bordetella.
Puppies: Must have two sets of puppy vaccines and their Bordetella shots.
Can I bring my dog’s food when he boards with you?
We recommend it. Being away from home, even in a cozy place like ours, is less stressful on canine tummies if dietary routines are maintained. But if you don’t bring food, or if you’re looking for a high-quality, natural, and nutritious dog food, we feed and sell NutriSource and Pure Vita premium dog food.
Can I bring my dog’s favorite toy and blanket when he boards with you?
You certainly can. But there’s no need, we have top-notch bedding and our selection of toys is sure to please even a picky pooch.
My dog needs medication. Will you administer it?
We can give your dog topical or orally ingestible medication, just provide a schedule, instructions, and the medications when you check your dog in at Tail Lights. Unfortunately we aren’t able to give your dog injections.
Are there any breeds you don’t accept?
No. All breeds are welcome at Tail Lights. However, we do screen all dogs for behavioral health, regardless of breed.
