The course covers how dogs learn, the fundamentals of ethology, and basics of canine physiology and perception. There is plenty of hands-on work with puppies and dogs! Here are some thoughts from past participants:

“I learned so much and have already been putting it into practice. Listening to you and watching the results have opened my mind so much and made me think more about how and why when working with my dogs. I enjoyed the class tremendously.” Sharon C.

“Thoroughly enjoyed the course. It was fun, informative, and the group was great!” Grace L.

“Among the many useful things I learned was to stay calm and positive when training! It was wonderful.” Jenny B.

“You always welcome any question and if you’re unsure about an answer you f ind out and let us know. Love the studies and stats, too. I look forward to Part II!” Liz F.

“I gained so much from your class. Not only did I learn the theory and techniques of positive training, but by applying what I learned, my relationship with our dog is greatly improved!” Zoe C.

“I got a training gig for a little schnoodle…it went really well. I got him to stop nipping at ankles and hands and taught him some basics. It was fun and it is so nice to be able to use what I have learned.” Rachel H.

“I highly recommend The Fundamentals of Behavior and Training. It was an excellent mixture of classroom time devoted to the science of how dogs learn and the hands on application of this information working with pet dogs. Mira is talented as a trainer of both dogs and people, and class was always fun, relaxed and enlightening for everyone involved. The skills I acquired have benefited me both personally and professionally in my work with clients and my own pets.” Lynn B., DVM

It is with enormous pleasure that TailLights Dogs announces weekly early education classes for puppies up to 12 weeks! Classes are held each Thursday evening, 6:45pm – 7:30pm

Reservations are needed – sign up by calling Woodruff Road Animal Hospital: 864-234-5995

Why is this so exciting? Because now there is no need for Greenville puppy owners to wait! A progressive class for very young puppies is available in a safe, veterinarian-supervised environment.

Time is of the essence during a puppy’s sensitive and critical period of brain growth. Like every other part of a puppy’s body, the puppy’s brain is growing at a remarkably rapid rate. By 16 weeks, a dog’s brain has grown to most of its total volume and has already formed much of its “behavioral shape”. ** By starting good habits at a young age, new puppy owners have an opportunity to give their dogs the gift of a lifetime.

** Do you have an older puppy? A teenager or juvenile delinquent? An adult dog? No worries – all dogs are open to learning new skills and eager to be rewarded for good behavior! Please contact TailLights using About Your Dog.

Training for Behavioral Health is an approach to thinking about how and why we engage in training our dogs. A fast growing body of research is validating some of our long-cherished ideas about the intelligence and deeply emotional lives of our canine companions. Can what this research reveals lead us to a better understanding of dogs?

Training for Behavioral Health considers the following:
* The emotional state of the individual dog
* The learning environment and abilities of the individual dog
* The need for benevolent human leadership
* The need for fair guidance and consistency over time in training
* The balancing of both human and canine needs
* Normal canine behavior, motivations, and enrichment needs
* Scientifically established methods of training using positive reinforcement
